How to get traffic to your forum
Getting traffic to your forum can be a difficult task especially if your forum is new. Getting visitors to sign up and contribute is even harder. Luckily, there are many methods and techniques you can do to increase your forum’s traffic and increase the amount of member sign ups for free.
Firstly, a forum should offer many ways for people to connect to each other such as private messages, posts and a chatbox. Having many ways for people to communicate with each other will keep them checking back regularly to see new messages and to talk with other forum members.
A forum should also have unique and interesting content which keeps people coming back and encourages them to sign up. There is most likely another forum competing with you on the same niche, so you will need to have something that separates you from the rest. Generally if your forums content/threads are offering worth while or interesting content more people will want to sign up.
Forums should also encourage people to contribute, create threads and post. This can be done in a variety of ways and the most common way to do this is through a reputation system. A reputation system allows members to be thanked by being given points on the forum by other members who find their post or thread interesting. If you offer a private forum for members who have more than a certain number of reputation, it will encourage and motivate members to share content and be more active on your forum.
Another way to increase traffic and activity on your forum is through contests. Contests offering something for free (such as a eBook) will get a lot of attention simply because it’s free. By having a small contest which is easy to do for the visitor, it will encourage them to sign up and hopefully a few of them will become active members on your forum. The contest could be about anything. Some examples are writing a short story, a poem or posting funny pictures of cats.
